Coming up with at next Views and Brews at The Cactus Cafe this Tuesday at 6 it’s “Censorship & Its Discontents” as we partner with the Austin Film Society to explore Hollywood’s Amazing Pre-Code Era. Join KUT’s Rebecca McInroy along with AFS lead programmer Lars Nilsen to explore the films of the early 1900s that were way ahead of their time, featuring strong female protagonists, gay and lesbian characters, and anti-heroes in crime and gangster films that allowed the audience to decide for themselves who was actually good or evil. Views and Brews is free and open to the public.

The Cactus Cafe is a live music venue and bar in the historic Texas Union on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin. Located in Austin, Texas, a city frequently referred to as “the live music capital of the world,” a number of well-known artists have played in the Cactus, and Billboard Magazine named it as one of fifteen “solidly respected, savvy clubs” in the United States, “from which careers can be cut, that work with proven names and new faces.”
