Austin singer-songwriter Christina Cavazos just turned 17, but she’s been dedicated to making music for as long as she can remember. Her musical maturity is fully evident on her second EP, Cold, released in Feb., 2017. Showcasing her clear soprano and accomplished songwriting, producer Louie Lino (Nada Surf, Ume, Matt Pond PA) layers Cavazos’ vocals over lush sonic collages, creating an elegant dream-pop mix full of allure.
A junior majoring in music composition at the Austin School for Performing and Visual Arts, Cavazos began studying piano and singing in her church choir at 6; at 12, she switched to guitar. She started writing songs at 14 and proved so good at it, she placed as a finalist in 2016’s Old Settler’s Music Festival Youth Competition and earned a scholarship to Berklee College of Music’s summer program for high-school students. Cavazos’ wide-ranging influences include the Beatles, Aimee Mann, Ingrid Michelson, Bon Iver, Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie), the Civil Wars and Fleetwood Mac, but her sound is all her own. https://christinacavazos.com
